Show jumping

Show Jumping

Horses show jumping became more popular in the 1900s when show jumping was included in more important horse shows. There were separate classes for men and women where they could ride side saddle. Horses were of course jumping long before there was a horse show to include it in and when the forward seat was developed riders leaned how to aid horses in clearing obstacles.

An Italian man named Captain Caprilli watched horses at liberty and began a natural method of show
jumping , people to this day still use his teachings.

The birth place of show jumping was in Paris , France in 1886. When show jumping was introduced to the English it was known as Lepping competition. Show jumping became a very popular sport in the 1900's.

The show jumping style called Grand Prix originated in France and in 1912 it was finally introduced into the Olympic Games.

Show jumping is an exciting sport and also a dangerous sport but entertaining enough for people to watch it , there is a lot of effort put into the show by both the rider and the horse. They must both have an athletic sense of balance. Horse and rider have to have a connection and trust in order to be able to complete a course of fences because they have to be able to read eachothers thoughts before going into a fence and the rider must go with the horse and not rush into it otherwise the horse panicks and either runs out iof the jump or the rider could end up falling off. There needs to be 100% focus for the whole time they're in the arena.

This is the world's highest jump at 2,47 m
